An Extraordinary Life
The story of Joseph Emidy - slave, musician, composer. Chromatix reflects upon the story of this almost forgotten early 19th century black musician, amplifying the few known facts of his life with imagined characters & happenings, and telling some of the traditional tales that Joseph might have heard.
Told with music specially composed by the group and played upon the harpsichord and flute.
Spirit of the Cave
A new piece for musicians and storyteller working together to tell a story for today's audiences.
The music has been specially composed by the musicians. Sometimes it leads, sometimes it echoes, always it underpins the words spoken as flute and harpsichord weave around the stories.
The story is about temptation, fate and the vagaries of love. It was inspired by the medieval Persian epic, Haft Paykar, by the 12th century poet, Nizami.
